An article called Embodying Your Authentic Self by Leslie Temple-Thurston was recently published in the New Connections Magazine in Portland, Oregon.
I am not going to quote the article here, but I am going to comment on its content. The gist of it is about resisting change and fearing loss in the Western world. Face it, for many the Western ways of life are/have been relatively comfortable and privileged, especially in the more economically powerful countries. But this is becoming our downfall as living a life with blinkers on and ignoring what is going on around us are lulling people into a false sense of security – like leaving the electric blanket on overnight, so to speak. We, as a species, can no longer afford to live life as compartmentalised and separate from each other within our own neighbourhoods or toward our neighbouring countries. Our way of life has changed drastically since the time of small tribes that never encountered each other. Today we fly all over the world, have instant media access and sophisticated communication technologies. We have become extended families and if we do not SINCERELY treat the entire world’s population as an extended family it is going to have undesirable consequences as we are seeing in today’s world.
I have encountered many concerned people who do earnestly believe the above statement and they have started to actively participate in caring for their respective neighbourhoods – caring what happens to the children and elderly, caring about the state of parks, the quality of the water and caring for the animal and plant life.
The Western life style is bringing so much emotional turmoil into our lives. How do we tackle this situation? We should invest in believing that we are all one entity – we live in one world – we operate as one species – we believe that harming one part of that whole will endanger the whole, even if it is not immediately apparent.
Leslie: “Living for the purpose of pleasure, safety or comfort takes one’s life down a very different track from a life motivated by the desire to complete the awakenings that you came here for. By awakenings, I mean experiences fathomed and the resulting jewels of awareness that develop – stored safely in the soul as beacons of Truth. Lessons learned inevitably become the wisdom of the deeper meaning of life – life as a journey toward knowing who ""You”” truly are, toward finding Your place in the cosmos. This is a very different state of consciousness than wearing the mask of the separate self, which strives for success – to win power, money or celebrity status to protect the comfort zone of the wounded, soft underbelly of the ego.
An alternative to making things like safety and comfort our main concern in life, is to choose Truth and to live in Truth, or holding Truth in the physical body itself, and thus living in the physical world in your authentic state of beingness, presence, love and luminosity, takes time and work. Yet during the current accelerated times in which we live, this can be done at a very fast pace, faster than ever before in human history, if one is willing to learn every lesson as it arises in life’s circumstances.”
“To embody enlightenment you must be dedicated to the service of Truth, and Truth only. It is true that the Truth will set you free, and it is also true that first you must liberate Truth in yourself.”
