The Simple Stuff..

As I am sitting here in my living room, sipping a cup of coffee and listening to the silence of 5:30 in the complex I stay in, I am tempted to start being poetic; but no, I am simply thankful for the beauty out there (the view from the balcony portrays a silent shot of distant blue-gray sky – interspersed with cotton-white clouds).

A plane flies past and it starts to drip a quick, late summer shower - and it gets me thinking:
Do we indeed know anything? All this running after the meaning of life and identifying with this, that and the next thing; constantly wanting to control the outcomes and reasons; the results and answers.

What has happened to spontaneity? What has happened to just appreciating? What has happened to loving and being loved in return – for the simple sake of enjoyment?
Why must we always question intent? Why do we feel indebted to always be running, doing and fulfilling. Why does it matter if your car is standing in the rain – just a couple of hours after you had it washed?
I will tell you why. It is because the majority of us have become stunted in our spontaneity, because we have experienced the disappointments that we believe life has thrown us. We believe that without our constant intervention, life will not, at least, turn out in our favour.

When your invincible determination feels deflated and you question why – then know that you have become disillusioned with your life. Don’t look for change, look for enhancement – and if necessary, change will follow. We live in a world that demands more and more of our time; it encroaches upon our private lives like a wolf in the night. This is not real life; it is the life that human society has made. The meaning of your life does not lie in what you have achieved, other than what you have achieved in personal growth. Outer achievement simply leaves a memory that fades and becomes distorted over time. Your meaning in life lies in what you have given others of yourself. And let me ad – if you give to others to enhance your stature, or give of yourself to puff up your reputation, then you are not giving – and to Life, that does not count – it is empty and hollow.

To know without telling people that you know is the test of a true master. This is someone who has achieved the meaning of living his/her truth.

Just in this week I have been approached by people who are scared of what life is becoming here on earth. People are afraid – afraid of everything. Threats are perceived around every corner – and if you look too closely, something will bite you.
Believe me, I am not turning a blind eye to the hypocrisy and fear we live in; but the only sunshine you are going to get, is the sunshine you put into your own life. And when you are kind to yourself, others can return that kindness also. This is also so apt in relationships these days – we put so much pressure on ourselves - that our loved ones feel left out.
Seriously – to appreciate the good things in life in today’s world is tricky. We need to be vigilant in keeping the magic in our space – and in our relationships.

“I do not know why this keeps on happening to me.” or “Why does this keep happening over and over again?” – when we make statements like these or ask questions such as these, we are not actually talking about a physical event, but about our feeling towards or in reaction to the re-occurring emotional cycles in our lives.
The uncomfortable physical circumstances of our lives right now, are the physical manifestation of the emotional ghosts of the past. We can chase them all we want, yet we already know that such activity, such motion and commotion, such drama, accomplishes nothing.

Like a friend of mine said yesterday:” I realized I had 74 applications on Facebook – too many, so I deleted half of them. Aaaaaah..

Lighten your load – there is no reason to carry things on your own – who are you trying to impress? No one is going to even look. So you might as well go out with that friend to coffee at that little place you were eyeing. And you might as well pack a picnic basket and accompany your lover to the botanical gardens for 2 hours of listening to a waterfall and talking simply for the sake of being.

The summer shower has stopped – and I am going to smell the wet now.

The simple stuff !! yes indeed, and your words are so true – so few are and behave as who they are – “I am”? I often wonder who the people I meet “are” – there are so many layers, walls, that I sometimes just wonder….

Enjoy the smell of the rain, and the beauty and essence of the early morning.

Thank-you Jacques, I really needed this! I have come to the same conclusion myself in the past 24 hours. I have set myself free from worrying and have fallen head first into the universe and its purpose for me. In my travels, I have never felt so cut off as in those places where life is western and easy. It has been the hard, Third World places where one can roll up one's sleeves and get to work and give that I have felt the most fulfilled. I am off to the next one soon...

It does make me think though that global consciousness is putting its tap roots into our souls with a similar message at the same time. It was just uncanny that we were thinking the same thing more or less... Staying in the present moment and getting everything we can from it and giving everything we can to it can only pull the others around us along, until the students become the masters!
