The ins and outs of self-doubt..

Self-doubt is something that everybody has – even the most self assured dudes & dudettes out there have a little bit of self-doubt every now and again. The Queen has it, your pet has it, presidents have it – prophets and popes have it. So next time you doubt weather someone has an ounce of self-doubt in them – know that they do…, and if you are still nervous – imagine them naked.

However, even though it is only something that we all share to some degree, note that WE ALL SHARE IT.

“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place.

If I quit, however, it lasts forever.”

- Lance Armstrong

It is not about being able to forego self-doubt – it is also not about not having it in your life. Self-doubt is part of the human make up; we all doubt if we are doing the right thing; if we have said the right thing, and at the right time. We doubt if we have made the right choices in things…, and with lovers. But most of all, people tend to doubt if they are good enough.

We forget that one is only good enough if you believe yourself to be so. Constantly proving to another that you are good enough can only lead to exhaustion and resentment (weather in work or love); but when that other person can sense your belief in yourself as good enough – now THAT is what you are after – they will believe you are good enough for them too.

Whichever way you look at it, and it may sound cooky, spooky and strange, but the human psyche is geared to pick up on such things (call it “vibes” if you will). If you do not believe yourself to be worth the effort – then you won’t be perceived to be worth it by others – and this includes employers, friends, acquaintances, and loved ones. Then do not try and blame it on some exterior factor or bring in a past similar experience – and for goodness sake! don’t draw comparisons between what you are experiencing now (e.g. with a lover) and what you have experienced before – with such action you press the self destruct button before there was a chance for things to develop. Each person and situation is unique; so treat it as such.

And to say something that is said all the time – NOTHING COMPARES TO OPEN COMMUNICATION…

If life is giving you a gift, then have the gumption to see it as such as well.

“Few men have the natural strength to honour a friend’s success without envy”

- Aeschylus
